Have you ever stopped to think about what your true calling in life is supposed to be? Are you on that path now, or have you strayed in the opposite direction? Breaching Vista is calling you out, and putting you on the spot. Their forthcoming single, “Your Calling” is a fine-tuned 3-and-a-half minute radio anthem, that cuts right to the chase – wake up and smell the coffee because your calling, is calling.“I literally sat outside on my balcony, closed my eyes, and started letting my senses discover the world around me,” says John Maksym – lead singer and songwriter of Breaching Vista. “Once I found myself in that state of relaxation, the song practically wrote itself.”
The message… Whether you’re searching for clarity, or living a life so far gone you’re in need of an intervention, each and every one of us has a true calling in this world. Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of effort to realize when it comes knocking, or to find it within yourself to make the necessary changes and open the door to opportunity. Breaching Vista are no strangers to the angst-driven motivationally charged songs that shine a light on the underdog, and see-to-it that they overcome all odds. Just look at their debut EP “Breaking the View” (2008), with songs like “Lifestyle Change” and fan-favorite “Tap, Tap” – an uptempo 90’s influenced pop-punk number that screams liberation and recovery of one’s damaged self-esteem.
The trend continues into “Vera City” (2011), the 13-track sophomore release highlighted by its singles “Sleep” and “Nervous” – both spun on Canadian rock radio with the latter cracking the Top 5 on ExploreMusic.com’s “The List.”
Collaborations with an African-style gospel choir, world-renown Cellist Kevin Fox, and a duet on “Letters” with DIY folk-punk artist Billy The Kid, are just a few of the exciting features that Breaching Vista expanded on their horizons with Vera City. “Letters” pays tribute to the families of loved ones serving in the armed forces, and is often featured on Canadian radio stations for Remembrance Day.
Breaching Vista’s loyal fan base continues to grow around Ontario, where they’ve found themselves sharing the stage with many notable acts such as Hedley, Marianas Trench, Theory of a Deadman, Finger Eleven, USS, Down With Webster, and the legendary Kim Mitchell, as well as becoming regulars on the festival circuit having performed at Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival, Sudbury’s Summerfest, Kitchener’s Beat Rocks The Block, Canadian Music Fest and the Vans Warped Tour, both in Toronto.
Through auditioning for the tv show “Cover Me Canada”, Breaching Vista forged a relationship with CBC, who invited them to perform a private VIP party at the Gemini Awards (2011) and were quoted online saying “These guys are gonna go somewhere!”
Founding members John Maksym (lead vocals/guitar), Mike Chhangur (bass/backing vocals), Al Malnar (lead guitar), and Nik Varey (drums), share an indescribable chemistry that is clearly noticeable to the listener. After Nik’s departure in 2011, the band struggled through a rough patch hiring session drummer’s to fill in for live performances until they found Nolan Orth to take over full duties in 2012. While Nolan brought a diverse talent and very positive personality to the band, just after a year of playing he decided he was not the right fit for BV, and respectfully disbanded himself in 2013.
After Nolan’s departure, Nik rejoined the band igniting a creative spark that led the band down a long path of writing, demoing and their return to Beach Road Studios with Juno Award winning Producer Siegfried Meier, for the recording of the eventual spring 2017 single “Your Calling.”
In the fall of 2017, the band and Nik amicably parted ways again, opening the door to many auditions over the course of the season. With just days remaining in the calendar year, Breaching Vista officially welcomed Michael Sferrazza as the newest member and full-time drummer, closing the loop and strengthening the core of the band heading into 2018.
